Euthan Simpson

After much curiosity and a desire to satisfy it, I found information about two of the ships my grandfather Euthan Ambrose Simpson served.
The first was the USS Wasp (CV-7). Info can be read about it here. It was torpedoed and sunk September 15, 1942.

Surviving the attack, he was immediately transferred to the USS Hornet (CV-8). It can be read about here. My grandfather fought on the ship in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands. This ship was attacked on October 26, 1942 and sunk the next day.

I can’t imagine what he went through. The fire on board the Kennedy was scary, but it is difficult to imagine surviving two attacks, much less one, and staying in the Navy afterward. He was a very quiet man, and now I understand why.

If you happen to have any information about these ships please post in the comments or contact me.

Israel’s desire for peace has ‘vanished’

France’s Foreign Minister is “hurt” because, “It seems to me, and I hope that I am completely wrong, that this desire has completely vanished, as though people no longer believe in it.” Check out the original article here.

WTF?

Why isn’t this bozo giving Iran a hard time for not pursuing peace? This is the kind of commentary that Jews need to stand up against. If there was ever a peace-loving nation that exists, it’s Israel. Israel gets blasted for defending itself against constant attacks. Israel withholds herself so many times at the request of the U.S. Israel, as the United State’s closest and most loyal ally certainly deserves a little street cred on this alone. When have your friends never contributed to your social standing?

What are your thoughts on France’s FM’s words?

President Obama’s Position on Iraq

Just thought I’d share a positive note about President Obama. It’s nice that he’s sticking to Bush’s policy on Iraq and Afghanistan.

President Obama highlighted U.S. accomplishments in Iraq: doing away with Saddam Husseins regime, helping establish a sovereign government, dealing al-Qaeda in Iraq “a serious blow,” and lifting Iraq out of “tyranny and terror.” His plan for ending the war is designed to preserve the value of these accomplishments. Rightly, his emphasis is on securing U.S. success, not cutting losses.

Israeli assault targets symbols of Hamas power – Yahoo News

Trying to formulate cohesive thoughts about Israel’s new war against Hamas is quite difficult because of the complexity. However, I do believe Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni’s words sum things up pretty well,

Israel is trying to avoid civilian casualties, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told reporters Monday, while “Hamas is looking for children to kill.”

“Hamas is targeting deliberately kindergartens and schools and citizens and civilians because this is according to their values. Our values are completely different. We are trying to target Hamas, which hides among civilians,” Livni said.
